So here I am getting settled in Rome. It’s about 8pm here as I’m writing this, and I’m starting to enjoy and appreciate the cozy pad I’m going to call home for the next couple of weeks. This year, my Chique Italian summer is starting in Rome, and I couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay.
My apartment is on the third floor of a beautiful palace right on Piazza di Spagna, the heart of the Eternal City. My living-room-slash-dining-room-slash-kitchen has a view of the Spanish Steps and I can enjoy the vibrant, zestful atmosphere of the Square anytime I want.
My bedroom is on the quiet side, with a large window and a view of the patio. A perfect place to sleep, where the sounds and noise of the busy streets around Piazza di Spagna cannot be heard. It’s also a great place to meet and connect with my new neighbors. I can just give them a friendly holler of buongiorno in the morning, and conversations get started and new friends are made.
The bathroom is somewhere in the middle – just an hour ago when I got home, I enjoyed a bubble bath with a glass of Chianti, leaving the door open and listening to the arias played and sung by street musicians on the Square. They are amazing – trust me, I’ve been to La Scala and these guys are just as good. In the morning, I just close the door and enjoy my invigorating shower in silence. Such a small place, and so many choices!
I’m going to bring you stories, pictures and insider tips from Rome in the next couple of days and weeks, so stay tuned! Right now, I need to get dressed and have dinner at one of the restaurants I’m planning to review for you. Tough life, I know, but as one of my fans on Facebook said, somebody’s gotta do it!
Buona serata!

Congrats on your new home. I have a beautiful photo I took of the Spanish steps and gaze at it fondly with wonderful memories. I love Rome. It is a trekk everyone should encounter on their bucket list. I am still so in love with the Sistine Chapel it is my wish to return again. Take care dear friend. Have a glass of Chianti in toast to you and life.
Tamara, I know you’re a passionate traveler! Thank you for your warm words. The Sistine Chapel takes my breath away every single time. Here’s a Chianti toast to you and to your lovely soul!
Imagine me screaming this because I’m so happy for you. “Just how lucky can one person be!” (You should have told me you were so busy.) Enjoy each moment. I’m looking forward to your upcoming posts.
Mary, thank you so much! I’m so happy to be here, and I think this summer is going to be really special. After Rome, I’m going to Venice and then to Sicily, and of course a couple of places inbetween. Who knows, maybe after this summer project I’ll feel like staying around indefinitely
Benvenuta a Roma, Barbara ! ))
